size does matter

I know I've blogged about Dutch artist Christien Meindertsma's HUMUNGOUS knits before...she of the ENORMOUS knitting needles:

--knits so humungous they make Twinkle's knits look like baby fine lacework---but have a look at this amazing cabled rug:

wow. wow. wow!
I find it's often the people who are not knitters "by trade" that seem to come up with the most ingenious stuff, and while I know her projects are more art installments based on the lives of the animals that she's involved with *in* those pieces, I can't help but marvel at the magnitude of it all.

Wow - that rug is amazing!

Also: you could seriously knock someone out with those knitting needles. Somehow I don't think they'd let you take those on a plane, although it would a fun way to experiment with CATSA policies...

I feel a strong need to make that to cover my bare floors. I need to whittle me some flag poles.

My god, that's the most fantastic thing I've ever seen. Can you imagine how comfortable standing/laying on that rug would be? (I guess that's assuming it's made of soft wool, not rope or whatever the heck you get that's got sts/foot guage)

I'm knitting something with size 35s right now and I thought THOSE were awkward. Jeeze.

I've been eyeballing this rug for a solid week, trying to figure out if it would be that hard to attempt at home.... I'm dying to have one for my own living room now!

I still want to try to knock-off one of her "poof" footstool/seat thingies. They were in the Globe and Mail style section last Saturday and it rekindled an interest in Ms. Meinderstma. Perhaps I'll put it on my resolutions list?

I feel the same about music, in that the best stuff is created by people who don't have to do it for a living...
