As I wrote that title I couldn't help but think of that Seinfeld episode where Elaine has to write up a product description on the "Urban Sombrero" for the catalogue she works for..."a hat that combines the spirit of old Mexico with a little big city panache". Except in my case it's more "a poncho that provides the couch potato comfort of a snuggie or a slanket with the urban manouverability akin to wearing your pajamas to the grocery store". Everything about this thing makes me crave a siesta.
You can tell that I am less than thrilled with having to present this beast (but in my defence it's just so darn comfy it made me incapable of garnering the energy needed to get back to this blog!)
pattern: cape Nebuleuse from Phildar (Fall #472)
yarn: 7 balls of patons Shetland Chunky in "charcoal" for the smallest size
I know, I know...my first clue should have been that the 6-foot tall model for it is just barely making it work (and I am now suspicious about the "action" shot they've chosen to use--if she had been standing still she probably would have looked like a triangle on toothpicks):
and well, 5 foot 4 inch (and er,uh D-cupped) ME...maybe not so much. I made sure to go easy on the blocking, because it's practically hitting me mid-thigh in the smallest size as it is.
But I think I get an "A+" for effort, not to mention frugality (the yarn for this came to about 33$ in the end...) and BOY it truly is comfortable. There are days when you just feel like hiding under a blanket with a trashy novel anyway!
I know my posting has been kind of non-existant of late (and for that I apologize!), but I promise you once this wedding and all it's endless planning and family-related parties are over with, regular life and regular knitting can resume. That said, you likely won't see another post from me until after we're back (and somewhat recupperated) from Vegas.
I simply cannot wait for it to be over (I am officially the worst bride ever...)

The pattern model appears to be running away from a mob of people trying to steal her super-comfy urban snuggie. Hee hee.
I don't know! I wasn't remotely interested in that pattern when you wrote about it before, but your version of it made me put it in my queue. Urban Snuggie win!
I have to say...I kind of like it on you! Like you I would totally wear it all day every day around the house but probably be hesitant to actually take it out of doors. But I honestly don't think it's that bad. Work it, girl!
I can't stop laughing reading your post!!! Hey comfort wins at home right?
Good luck with the wedding! Look forward to hearing from you more!
Another win!!!! I wish I was wearing that thing right now.
Urban Snuggie is a good name for it. And bonus - if you can wear that around the house and your boy still thinks you're sexy, you know it was meant to be, right?
Congrats and good luck and all that - Have FUN!
tee hee - "slanket" haven't heard that one yet!
it does look warm and comfortable, but yeah, prob not for outdoor wear?!
good luck with the last of the wedding planning and the actual day and remember to keep focus on the fact that it's about the marriage, not just the wedding, so if you're not really into the hoopla, that's ok :)
The cape came out perfect.
I am vertically challenged and it would probably look even bigger on me, but it looks just fine on you.
It will definitely keep you warm on chilly days.
Good luck with the nuptials! Have a blast! xox
It looks great on you! I'm big on the wearable blanket... how can you go wrong? Reminds me of old comme des garcons where her entire line looked like comforter-suits. :))
Congrats!! Are you getting married in Vegas?? My parents live there. It's such a hoot if you mentally prepare yourself.
HELLO! I just found your blog recently and I love it! You are highly entertaining and everything you knit is super! :)
Oh my gosh! When I saw that YOU had left a comment on MY blog I nearly died! You are SO COOL and you made my day! Thanks ;)
hahhhaa I'm sorry I am kinda nerdy!
hah! Lauren, you flatter me ;)
Hi,
I would really like to knit this 'urban snuggie' but I can't find the pattern. I looked all over the phildar website and - nothing. Do you think you could point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!
hi there--the pattern is cape #472-T7-083 from Phildar pattern book#472 (the fall magazine from 2007). Not sure if it's still available on their website or not it might be sold out--are you on ravelry? because you can probably link to it from there...
